Meet the client
Telekom, short for Magyar Telekom Plc, is Hungary’s leading telecommunications service provider with over 5.4 million mobile customers, almost 1.4 million fixed voice customers and more than 1.3 million broadband customers. The Deutsche Telekom subsidiary is committed to driving innovation to better serve people and businesses alike. In doing so, it relies in no small part on its 5,000-strong workforce, hiring some 350-380 employees for 600-650 positions each year – and 50-60 vacancies at any given time.
Understand the challenge
For a company as high-profile as Telekom, a career site that does it all is an absolute must. As in, a site that not only looks and feels on brand but also makes information and jobs easy to find and filter across functions and geographies, plus creates a candidate experience that’s as top-tier as the talent the company is looking to attract.
In 2018, it became clear that the ICT giant’s existing recruitment workflows and tech stack didn’t tick many of these boxes. Job seekers had to hop between three different portals to browse and apply for positions, which made the application process quite tedious and sometimes downright frustrating for users on both sides.
The challenge was to take one of the platforms out of the equation and channel applicants into a new applicant tracking system, or ATS, through a revamped career site. In other words, to build a customizable recruitment tech stack that makes life easier for applicants and staff alike and deploy it without disrupting any ongoing flow of work.
Explore the solution
Having previously built an eCMS system, among other things, for Telekom, ShiwaForce emerged as an obvious choice for this project. Our task was to revamp the career site and deploy a new ATS so the company can attract more job seekers and engage them better as well as streamline the selection process for everyone involved.
As for the ATS, we chose Prescreen’s cloud-based solution and enhanced it with a custom interface and user-facing application in tow with the talent acquisition platform developer. The new system was designed not only to speed up and smooth out recruitment workflows but also to leave ample room for future changes and upgrades.
The latter was facilitated through agile development, an approach that Telekom and ShiwaForce have long championed. Focusing on delivering the most value in the shortest time possible, we used agile practices to build and roll out the new recruitment stack within just six months and addressed new business and user needs as they arose in the process.
See the results
The career site got a major makeover, donning a fresh, easy-to-navigate design and enabling job seekers to complete the general application process in just 10-20 seconds. The HR department saw immediate productivity gains as the new ATS makes it possible for staff to handle and share all recruitment-related documents in one place.
Recruiters can now enter applicants’ salary expectations, upload pre-recorded interview sessions, ask mandatory questions and add game-based assessments along with results being visible for everyone involved in the selection process. It’s used by some 140 colleagues across the company, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
“From an HR perspective, the biggest advantage of the new applicant tracking system is that it’s a one-stop-shop solution. There’s no need to store and share a bunch of Excel sheets, Word documents and media files with each other. Everyone can access everything they need to do their part in the recruitment process fast and without any hassle.”
